Thank YOU Hobbes! I am hoping that they will add more cities down south.

Well the list isn't confirmed yet, so hopefuly more cities are on there way to the tour list. [Big Grin] [Cool] [Big Grin] Of course probably none that I care about... [Grumble] [Grumble] [Wink]

I would love to carpool with you if you want, Hobbes, I'm not sure I would be allowed to go alone, but I probably would with another person. I live in Southern Indiana, so I could meet you somewhere in Indy.

[Hail]

Pleeeeeease?

Once again, no Oklahoma. [Grumble] [Frown] [Mad]

Unless, of course, you are the one having to do the tour. Then your post would look like this:

Once again, no Oklahoma. [Big Grin] [The Wave] [Party]

Doc

(Who is no big fan of the midwest, but does appreciate Oklahoma's courtesy in being smaller than Texas. In fact, a pretty good state motto would be, "Oklahoma: You'll be out faster than you got out of Texas. Especially if you go north at the skinny part.")

(Forgive me. The Endercon video over at philoticweb.net has arroused all my anti-midwest feelings.)

I consider myself very fortunate that OSC is planning on doing a Dayton stop and a Cincinnati stop. Just like last tour, both of those stops are no more than a half an hour drive from my house and I get to go to both. [Smile]

So which family member lives in Ohio?

Posted by cyruseh (Member # 1120) on :

I dont know... maybe he just loves us ohioan hatrackers so much...

Actually, as kacard said, I dont think OSC has much control over where his stops are. The Books & Co. store in Dayton seems to specialize in having authors come in and having a good turn out. I dont know why he then decides to come to Cincinnati the next night, maybe its like a little rest stop, since its not very much driving at all between the two of them, maybe 45 minutes.

docmagik -- In what bizarre alternative universe are Texas and Oklahoma considered part of the Midwest?

Posted by docmagik (Member # 1131) on :

From dictionary.com:

Midwest: n 1. Any of a number of states in the central region of the United States which are notable primarily for thier distinct lack of notable qualities. Often mentioned in conversation only in terms of their being an intermediate step in a journey to a more interesting state, like Washington. 2. Any state in which "city" is used as a metaphor for an emotion or situation, as in "You and I's goin' to fist city."

------------------------------------

Both Texas and Oaklahoma seem to fit the official definition. As Red Skelton used to say, and has since been ripped off by numerous other comedians, "Texas is miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles."

Seattle????!!!!!

Yeah!!!!!!!

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

How very odd. When I go to dictionary.com and type "midwest" I get:

quote:

Mid·west ( P ) Pronunciation Key (m d-w st ) or Middle West

A region of the north-central United States around the Great Lakes and the upper Mississippi Valley. It is generally considered to include Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska. The area is known for its rich farmlands and highly industrialized centers.

Mid·western adj.
Mid·western·er n.

There are two other definitions, “the north central region of the United States” and a specific town in Wyoming.

Three definitions, and none of them the one that you gave. Which dictionary.com was it that you went to?

[Frown] = Wisconsin = Midwest.

Although if the dates are alright, I want to hit up the Books & Co. in Dayton, as I have a good friend who lives in D-town and worked at the B&C. But that's only if the schedule works.

Anyone have dates for this?

I think the Oklahoman Edition of dictionary.com is broken.

Wouldn't it be appropriate to start this tour in Crystal City, Va?

Card has appeared at a store only a short distance from there several times.

No Kansas either!

Boy -- he's leaving out a LOT of the heart of the country if he's skipping KS, OK and TX!

We're used to being the "forgotten" part of the nation, though. In some cases, that can actually be good (like the fact that terrorists hardly are even aware that Kansas exists! Not a likely target...)

I agree. It's only proper. Of course, I am slightly prejudiced. [Wink]

Good point, Ariel!

When I visited Crystal City in 1984 or so, they did have a Waldenbooks . . . . I remember buying the D&D Immortals set there . . . or was it the Masters set . . .

I still don't know if that reference to a pet tiger was literal or metaphorical, Hobbes. I'm very curious, actually. I've always liked animals. I have a quite handsome number of pets, anyhow.
I don't know why, but I feel like laughing right now, and what is even more funny is my lack of knowing why ... [ROFL] [Laugh] [Taunt]
It just felt good to do that!!

Are there any dates planned yet? Especially interested in when and where in Raleigh.

What's with this whole not doing a Charlotte stop? Why does all culture in North America completly bypass my city?

Sorry I didn't respond earlier. [Embarrassed] Here's my favorite picture of Hobbes (he's in a picture in the background). [Big Grin]

What about NORTHERN CALIFORNIA? Sacramento is always forgotten......

I guess I can drive to San Jose, it's only two hours. [Grumble]

Hobbes, what was the link on this?? Was it the Tor site? Have we heard anything solid yet about dates and cities??

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 433) on :

Narnia, indeed it was on a Tor site. I only found it because I was following links off of the Hatrack main page. Apparently the Cards didn't want it mentioned yet since no dates or places have been set in stone and what not. Sorry again Kristine. [Frown] [Embarrassed] [Frown]

Well, the direct link to the list of tour cities is on the Hatrack home page, so it's not really anything you did Hobbes. [Smile]

Just to add, nothing is new yet. *crosses fingers*

Posted by wieczorek (Member # 5565) on :

While I don't believe that the idea I have deduced from that link is true, Hobbes, this is what I have found: you have a picture of a tiger on your wall that you have named "Hobbes". Hmmm...I'm not sure if that's the message I was supposed to receive. Ah well! Living with curiosity is a good thing!

Has Bill Watterson really been retired long enough for the new generation to not be familiar with tigers named Hobbes?

Posted by Heffaji (Member # 3669) on :

That would be a scary thought indeed. With Bloom County returning in some sort of transmogrified form, my hopes are up for at least a new book of a boy and his tiger from Watterson.
